Likewise-CIFS

Likewise-CIFS provides industrial-strength client-side and server-side SMB/CIFS support so Microsoft Windows clients can access folders and files on Linux, Unix, and Mac computers.

At the same time, the Likewise CIFS FUSE module lets you mount remote Windows shares on a Linux computer to access folders and files. You can remotely manage Likewise CIFS File Server on Linux and Unix machines by using popular Microsoft Windows tools.

Technical Features

• Likewise-CIFS will support SMB1 and SMB2 at the time of launch.
• Stores the full granularity of Windows access control lists in extended attributes.
• Checks access rights by using the security descriptor and access token.
• Implements Windows remote management APIs.
• Supports arbitrary named pipe RPC servers.

Licensing

The Likewise-CIFS is available under a dual license -- either GPL v2 or a commercial license from Likewise Software.

The modular code base includes multiple levels of publicly accessible APIs to provide the foundation for Windows-Linux interoperability in a variety of IT products.

How to Get the Source Code

A technology preview version of Likewise-CIFS is available to developers at git://git.likewiseopen.org/. More information on installing and using git can be found at http://git.or.cz/.

The following command will download the latest version of the Likewise Open code base:
$ git-clone git://git.likewiseopen.org/likewise-open.git likewise-open
